Lead and Copper

The City of Naples is dedicated to protecting the quality of its drinking water through proactive compliance with all state and federal requirements. The water leaving our treatment facilities consistently meets the highest standards, and we continue to strengthen programs that safeguard public health and preserve trust in our community’s infrastructure.

IMPROVE

To support this commitment, the City implemented the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) in 2024 through our Water Service Line Inventory Program and are already preparing for the LCR Improvements, which take effect in 2027. Together, these updated regulations enhance national efforts to reduce lead exposure by requiring all water systems to develop a complete inventory of service lines, share this information publicly, and maintain transparent communication with customers.

Naples has conducted lead testing in accordance with federal standards since 1992, and Florida has prohibited the use of lead in service line construction since 1977. For these reasons, lead service lines are not expected in our system, and residents can trust that lead in drinking water is not a health concern in our community.

The City of Naples is proud to have successfully submitted its initial water service line inventory to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in October 2024, meeting the LCRR deadline. Building on that achievement, we’re continuing our efforts through our Water Service Line Inventory Program to identify any service line materials that remain unknown in our record.

Notification letters were first sent in 2024 and will continue to go out each year to customers with service lines that are either listed as being made from an unknown or galvanized requiring replacement (GRR) material. Customers that receive an “unknown” notice may be asked to assist by completing a short survey to help identify their service line material.

About The Water Service Line Inventory Program

It is for this reason that we are asking customers with an unknown service line to help us identify the material.

If you received a letter in the mail that you have a service line made from an unknown material, please join us in protecting our drinking water system by self-identifying your pipe material and submitting the information to us via our online survey.

What is a Service Line?

A service line is the pipe that runs underground from the water main in the street directly to your home, usually seen outside at the hose bib. The City of Naples owns and maintains all water main and related infrastructure up to about your property line. Property owners are responsible for the pipes from the water meter to the home.
